Good idea bad idea - altoid tin
Is it a good idea or a bad idea to use an Altoid tin to hold grease from bacon?

When making bacon grease will build up in the pan. Unfortunately one can not just poor this down the kitchen sink drain like old dish water. Frequently I fail to have a jar that I can poor this grease into. Fortuity I have an untold number of empty Altoid tins. So can one use an Altoid tin to hold bacon grease and is it a good idea?

A few clear and obvious points.
1) It is a tin. It will get hot. If you need to move it immediate DO NOT use the tin.
2) It is a smaller tin. I do have the big domed tins but I used regular tins for this. If you need to hold more grease then 4 strips of bacon DO NOT use the tin.

With that said.. After figuring out that 4 slices of bacon was the magic number to not have the grease over flow the tin. It works nicely. It is a nice wide section to pour the grease in to. Most bottles I use I find that I get grease running down the sides. I can also shut the lid to the tin right away so I do not need to worry about having it splash out.

Is it really a good idea? Nope. I am still waiting to move the 3 tins I used while making a pound of bacon. It would be a good idea to put a hole in the Altoid tin and make it a funnel for a bottle with a smaller opening. I would like to use an Altoid tin as a candle base. I think that the wick would not work well. It would burn out before the candle was close to being done. So I have an idea of making a wick that would move as it heats up the wax.
